Job Title: Manufacturing/Quality Control Associate

Position Summary

Paragon Genomics is a fast-growing life sciences company developing advanced reagents and assay kits for next-generation sequencing (NGS). We’re seeking a hybrid Manufacturing/Quality Control Associate who demonstrates technical knowledge in both areas and significantly contributes to the overall operations of the lab. The ideal candidate has knowledge of and experience with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and/or Points to Consider (PTC) guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The ideal candidate will have wet-lab technical skills in NGS library preparation, target enrichment or molecular biology, in general. This position will interact closely with colleagues in research and development, manufacturing, sales, operations, applications, and accounting. There is a tremendous opportunity for rapid career growth for the candidate who demonstrates competence and a willingness to learn new responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing (50%)

 Package products for shipping, record shipping information, coordinate shipping activities with external parties, including FedEx, UPS, DHL, customer service associates, and consignees.
 Prepare accurate export documentation for regulatory compliance.
 Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
 Perform oligo reconstitution, quantification via nanodrop, and aliquoting for custom orders.
 Perform all GMP manufacturing operations under cGMP/ISO requirements and adhere to valid manufacturing procedures and documentation.
 Assist in the development and testing of new or revised products, equipment, and procedures.
 Unpack items to be stocked on shelves in supply rooms or storage areas. Store items in an orderly and accessible manner.
 Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using a computer.
 Label stock items and assign lot numbers using identification tags, stamps, or other labeling equipment.
 Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.

Quality Control (50%)

 Perform quality control of reagents, panels, and kits.
 Initiate, prepare and revise technical documents and reports including ISO, validation plans, SOPs and more.
 Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance, according to ISO procedures and documentation.
 Support maintenance and compliance of quality control, incoming inspection, and operational areas.
 Implement and ensure strict adherence to quality control and quality assurance measures of NGS assays. Ensure adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
 Calibrate, validate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
 Additional duties and responsibilities assigned as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

 BS degree in Biological Science or another relevant degree, with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant industry experience or an Associate’s degree with 4+ years of relevant industry experience in a quality control or lab technician role.
 Strong molecular biology laboratory skills. Experience in multiplex PCR, sample preparation, ctDNA and/or dPCR/qPCR is highly valued.
 Knowledge of ISO, Good Document Practices (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) required.
 Good computer skills and comfort in using computers for all aspects of MFG, including experience with MS Office (Excel and Word). WooCommerce or other order fulfillment software a plus.
 Excellent project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with vendors, internal customers and sales professionals regarding quality and purchasing issues.
 Outstanding interpersonal skills, highly collaborative within a multi-discipline team and contribute to a supportive and positive work environment.
 Dedicated, self-motivated and engaged to learn new methodologies or provide recommendations for optimization.
 Excellent critical thinking skills. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
 Demonstrated ability to organize, document and communicate scientific data. 
 Prior experience in implementing a QMS system a plus.
 Must be able to multi-task, perform under pressure, and adapt to changes (in priorities and timelines) in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment.

Abilities

 Must be able to stand for long periods of time while performing duties.
 Must be able to work independently and safely in a lab environment.
 Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

The Technical Sales Specialist (TSS) will conduct sales and related sales support activities for all Paragon Genomics’ products and applications. The TSS is a highly technical position and requires in-depth knowledge of all products and applications within the Paragon Genomics portfolio.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate technical credibility to consult with customers on Paragon Genomics technology solutions and deliver technical talks highlighting value propositions
  • Ability to sell into Targeted NGS Customer segments including academic research, pathology, agrigenomics and pharmaceutical and biotechnology; knowledge of NGS industry and workflows
  • Work with product management/R&D/applications/marketing and field sales to develop and execute sales strategy and tactics
  • Act as a technical liaison between external KOLs/collaborators/partners and internal R&D team
  • Partner closely with Sales Executives to generate, qualify, and close sales opportunities
  • Consistently and accurately manage sales process including prospecting, closing, sales forecasting, pipeline management
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of markets, products, and buying practices required to effectively compete in the assigned territory
  • Ensure that customers are fully satisfied
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and/or ad hoc business/activity reports as required
  • Coordinate and/or conduct both technical and promotional seminars, trade shows, vendor shows, and related activities as deemed necessary
  • Achieve assigned territory sales goals by calling on existing and potential new customers via field visits, email, telephone, video conference, etc.

Qualifications and Background

  • Four-year degree in a relevant field (e.g. Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry). Advanced degree preferred, but not required (MBA, MS, Ph.D.)
  • Two to three years of sales or business development experience in sales/marketing required
  • Extensive knowledge in Next Generation Sequencing, especially target enrichment, required

Job Description:

We are seeking a senior level bioinformatics scientist who is passionate about making real differences in the field of molecular diagnostics and is enthusiastic about working in an exciting startup environment. This position will report to the head of bioinformatics and will be involved in improving and developing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis algorithms.

This position requires a person with a strong commitment to science and technology and with demonstrated knowledge in genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, and programming. The candidate should be energetic, open-minded, detail-oriented and results driven.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Improve NGS data analysis pipeline.
  • Improve various variant calling algorithms.
  • Analyze NGS data to facilitate research and development effort of the company.
  • Troubleshoot customer NGS data.  
  • Mine sequencing data and provide feedback to R&D team.

Qualifications & Background:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or related field.
  • 3+ years of industrial working experience. 
  • Extensive experience with NGS variant calling algorithm development.
  • Extensive experience with NGS data analysis pipeline development.
  • Experience with somatic variant detection utilizing UMI.
  • Familiarity with algorithms for NGS CNV detection.
  • Strong proficiency with python, perl, shell scripting and R.
  • Experience with custom software development.
  • Familiarity with parallel computing, database, and Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience in technical communication with customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
